My roommates and I are shameless sitcom lovers. We love them for providing mindless entertainment, background noise while doing work at home, and the humor we need after watching the latest episode of The Following (great show, but too many serial killers). This past weekend we indulged in a four-hour marathon of The Big Bang Theory.
As we laughed at the adorably nerdy antics of television’s biggest science lovers, I couldn’t help but notice that the characters’ wardrobes are just as quirky as their personalities. Sheldon and his crew sport comfy graphic tees, plaid button-downs and cozy sweater vests, resulting in outfits which are academic yet stylish. Personally, I’d be likely to borrow from girl-next-door Penny’s boho chic wardrobe. Her casual jeans, soft cardigans and bright floral tops are both laid-back and feminine, and would easily fit into any woman’s closet.
Whether they admit it or not, everyone has a geeky side, even your clients. Help them show it off with a few of these Big Bang-inspired trends (PhD not included).
Like a New Penny
The Modal Silk Two-Pocket Cardigan Cover-Up from Alternative Apparel would fit easily into Penny’s relaxed California wardrobe. Its sheer, lightweight fabric adds a touch of laid-back luxury to a casual outfit.
Mad about Plaid
It’s easy to picture Howard in the Poplin Plaid Woven shirt from Bobby Jones, though he would likely pair it with a crazy belt buckle. End-users can leave the eccentric accessory behind and wear the button-down with jeans or dress pants for a casual or formal look.
Layers of Style
The Hamilton Long-Sleeve Tee from Brandwear Basics Ltd. seems like a piece that Sheldon would layer under one of his many graphic tees. It can also be worn on its own for casual or formal wear. The tee is available in black, white, navy and charcoal heather. Sizes run S through XXL.
